Brushstrokes

The watercolour paint is set up in parallel brushstrokes within a rectangle. This strict set-up emphasizes the water spots with highly pigmented edges that characterize this medium.

This series is part of the larger Simple Monochrome series. In monochrome watercolour, with simple shapes and gestures I investigate what water, pigment and paper want to show 'naturally'. This natural expressiveness forms a field of tension with the gestures with which the paint is applied.
