Planes

The watercolour paint is set up in a simple rectangle. These simple rectangles enter into an architectural relationship with the space in which they are shown. Close by, they open up a 'space of colour' in addition. In the serenity of that opening space, the watercolour paint shows its properties in all kinds of characteristic details.

This series is part of the larger Simple Monochrome series. In monochrome watercolour, with simple shapes and gestures I investigate what water, pigment and paper want to show 'naturally'. This natural expressiveness forms a field of tension with the gestures with which the paint is applied.
